She is named after the stigmatist and Doctor of the Church Saint Catherine of Siena. The saint's body (except her head) is in the sarcophagus under the altar at the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. "Sopra Minerva" translates to "over Minerva" because the church was built on the foundation of the temple to Minerva built by Pompey. Saint Catherine's incorrupt head is kept in the Chapel of Saint Catherine in Saint Dominic's Basilica in Siena. "Incorrupt" means that despite the laws of physics which state that an unpreserved corpse will decay, her body has not done so.
